How to reach Ischia island by plane, train or auto

UPDATED SEASON 2024

We will tell you how to get to Ischia easily and invite you to contact us for further specifications and directions.

Ischia is an Italian island of infinite beauty that many around the world still do not know.

Ischia is the largest island of the Gulf of Naples, it is a peal of the Mediterranean Sea along with Capri and Procida.
The Green Island, so called, due to its luxuriant nature, can be reached by car, train or plane.
Below are the various possibilities.

1. Reach Ischia by plane

Capodichino Airport connects Naples with almost the entire world.
Many cities and the world are served with more daily flights, so choosing the option of the plane is certainly recommended to whom
spend a holiday in Ischia starting from the medium or long distance. Ckeck this useful link www.tui.se
Once you land in Naples you will need to reach the Port of Naples by taxi or by bus.

  • Taxi: The fixed rate is € 21 per car. The cost is inclusive of any extras (night, holidays, luggage, animals, various supplements, etc.)
with the exception of possible surcharge for radio-call and toll.
We suggest you specify the preference for the fixed rate at the departure to avoid any misunderstanding.
  • Bus: ALIBUS is a direct bus that connects Naples Capodichino airport to Naples Central Station (1st stop) and the Port of Naples (2nd stop).
You can buy tickets on board by cash for € 5.00 per person (luggage included) or by credit card on the website (link at the end of the article).

Arriving at the Port you can choose a ferry or a hydrofoil to reach the island, from the ports of Molo Beverello (hydrofoils) and Porto di Massa (ferries).
The two ports are adjoining and there is a free shuttle that connects the two.
We suggest to book ferries or hydrofoils in advance especially during the high season periods (national holiday, August), you will find links at the end of the article.

2. Reach Ischia by Train

The Central Station of Naples is connected with the highspeed line by Trenitalia and Italo.
In a few hours, it is possible to arrive in Naples from almost all Italian and European city.
To reach the Port of Naples from the Central station it will be necessary to take a taxi, bus or underground.

  • Taxis: The cost of the tariff is predetermined of € 13 per car and is inclusive of all extras (night, holidays, luggage, animals, various supplements, etc.)with the exception of the possible radio-taxi call supplement (the service should not be necessary, as there is a parking of the station).
  • Underground: once you get out of the station you will find the direction to take the underground. The cost is € 1,10 per ticket to pay cash. Take the direction for "Piscinola" and get out in "Piazza Municipo" Metro station.

Once you reach the port you will need to choose a hydrofoil (Molo Beverello) or a ferry (Porto di Massa) to arrive on the island.
We suggest to book ferries or hydrofoils in advance during the high season periods (national holiday, August), you will find links at the end of the article.

3. Reach Ischia by Car

Ischia is an island for experienced drivers! In general, we do not recommend to guests, which have no particular dysmicicità driving, to reach the island by car. Our roads are much smaller than those of the cities and during high season very chaotic.
On the other hand, during uncrowded months, arriving by car could be a good idea to explore independently the island.
We remind you that from March 29th to October 31st 2024 the arrival on the island for cars and mopeds registered in Campania is forbidden.
By car, you can choose to embark from the Ports of Naples or Pozzuoli.

  • Pozzuoli (recommended option): FROM NORTH Take the A1 highway towards Naples, past the Caserta Sud tollbooth, go ahead for about 12 Km and take the "Tangenziale di Napoli" towards Pozzuoli, and go ahead until the exit for "Arco Felice" and continue to the port of Pozzuoli.
FROM SOUTH pass the exit for Naples, continue for Rome until the entrance to the ring road and take the "Arco Felice" ring road exit.
  • Naples: FROM NORTH Take the A1 motorway towards Naples, past the tollbooth Caserta Sud, follow the road signs for Naples "port area" and, ahead for the Porto Calata di Massa. FROM SOUTH From the highway, take the "San Giovanni" exit and drive ahead to Zona Portuale.

We highly recommend booking the ferry in advance during the high season (national holidays, August).

4. How to reach the Romantica Resort & Spa once on the island.

Once arrived on the island, reaching our Resort located in Sant'Angelo is very simple.

By car: Just follow the directions for Sant'Angelo driving along the provincial road (we recommend the coastal road), you will pass the towns and villages of Casamicciola, Lacco Ameno, Forio, Panza, Succhivo and you will reach Sant'Angelo. At the end of the straight road that precedes the Borgo di Sant'Angelo, you will find our visible signs on the left, right next to the welcome signal of Sant'Angelo.
You can safely park your car in our large free parking area (covered and uncovered). On foot: You can choose to reach our Resort by taxi or by bus

By Foot: you can decide to take a taxi or a public bus.

  • By taxi: we suggest you contact us and we will give you the references of our taxi drivers. The rates will differ according to the Port of arrival: Port of Ischia € 40; Port of Casamicciola € 30; Port of Forio € 25.
  • By Bus: from the Port of Ischia, Casamicciola and Forio we recommend taking the line 1 or CS Line (cost € 1.50) with a final destination of Cava Grado bus terminal in Sant'Angelo.
